A Few
Words About Jason...
Thanks for
stopping by! I'm a bit
hesitant to say too much about myself...people as opinionated as
me have a bad habit of attracting nuts who aren't always capable of
expressing their disagreement verbally and
nonviolently--especially given much of the subject matter I'll
be covering in my "Daily Diatribes" (blogs/podcasts). But I will share a few
details with you so you're not completely clueless about the
mind behind what you're reading and listening to.
First off, I'm a native-born
American of foreign-born ancestry and I've lived everywhere from
both coasts to the middle of America. I proudly count
among my close friends people of virtually all religious
faiths (although I do not belong to any
particular religion myself), and my close friends also include members
of both major political parties (although I do not belong to a
party whatsoever...in fact I hate political parties and will
have much to say about that in my diatribes).
On that note, I'm virtually impossible to
pigeon-hole politically using modern categories. My more
conservative credentials include favoring more state autonomy
vis-ŕ-vis the federal government (a.k.a. federalism for those
familiar with the term), a strong national defense, a
water-tight border and more strict immigration policy, an
elimination of preferences based on race, free trade,
constitutional interpretation based on the original intent of
the framers, and the recognition of the role of faith,
specifically Christianity, in the founding of our country and
it's occasional display (short of an "establishment" of a state
church) on government property. On the other hand, I favor
the legalization of marijuana, gay marriage and parental rights,
and a woman's control over her own body.
These political beliefs might lead some to
the incorrect conclusion that I'm somehow being ideologically
inconsistent. However, the truth is that I am a classical
liberal in the tradition of John Stewart Mill, and believe that
all humans (and especially those living in the world's symbol of
freedom--the United States), should have the highest degree of
liberty possible in all facets of their lives as long as they
don't encroach upon the liberty of others: politically
(ex., one's freedom to vote for who one wants to in as many
consecutive elections as possible--which is why I oppose
so-called "term limits," preferring to call them "voting
restrictions"); economically (ex., the right to buy goods
at the lowest prices--including those produced abroad--without
excessive governmental intervention in the form of exorbitant
taxes or tariffs); and socially (ex., a person's right to
marry who they want as long as both are consenting adults--even
if both are of the same gender).
And finally, I'm recently-married to an
amazing woman and I'm
relatively young, but in my short time on this planet, I've
managed to put in some time doing everything from teaching to
music, politics to fitness, and marketing to broadcasting.
In those fields I've had the privilege of working with some
amazing people as well as with some first class schmucks.
Fortunately the amazing people I've been lucky enough to work
with have made enduring the schmucks a lot easier.
Well that's a decent enough picture of the guy behind this site, and behind the voice on the podcasts.
Enjoy my daily diatribes, and please e-mail me at
bullypulpitonline@yahoo.com if you've got any questions,
have an idea for a "Daily Diatribe," would like to know my feelings on a particular issue, or need
some good, sound, common sense advice about anything!
Thanks, and enjoy--
